Ooh la la! I have finished decorating for our Lunar New Year celebration! I look forward to our family and friends joining us next week for dinner, as we celebrate the “Year of the Snake”🐍
According to The Economic Times News, ‘the 2025 Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Wood Snake, a time filled with deep cultural meaning and significance.’ This is ‘a time of transformation, wisdom, and personal growth. According to Chinese astrology, the Snake symbolizes intelligence, mystery, and renewal. In 2025, the Wood Snake will bring new opportunities for growth and change.’
If you already have your copy of my book Ooh la la! I’m sharing my recipe for the Yazi Ginger Martini below. Gung Hay Fat Choy—Happy New Year!

Yazi Ginger Martini
Single Serving
- 3 ounces Yazi
- 1 ½ ounces triple sec
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup (see below)
- Splash of lemon juice
Shake ingredients over ice. Strain into martini glass. Garnish with stemmed red chery and tiny pinch, not a shake, of Chinese five spice powder.
Pitcher Serving (Serves 6-8)
- 1 bottle Yazi (save the bottle)
- 16 ounces tripe sec
- 1 cup simple syrup (see below)
- ¾ cup fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup water
When making a pitcher, mix all ingredients and pour into saved Yazi bottle and another container. Keep mixture in the freezer until ready to use. Garnish each glass poured as you would a single serving.
Simple Syrup
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
Pour sugar and water into medium saucepan and combine. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool. Store in glass jar with lid in the refrigerator for up to one month.
